The Lesson Format Of My Melbourne Guitar Tuition

Guitar FretboardThe electric guitar lessons that you'll get from me will have the following format…

  • They are 45 minutes long.
  • They are done on a one-on-one basis.
  • They are given on either a weekly or fornightly basis.

Do You Recommend Weekly Or Fortnightly Lessons?

A lot of teachers recommend weekly lessons. And for most budding guitarists this format works exceptionally well. Some of the benefits of weekly lessons include…

  • Because of the weekly guidance there is far less chance of bad practice habits creeping into your playing. I can catch and correct bad habits before they become ingrained into your technique.
  • Many people find the weekly contact with a tutor very motivating. This can help you feel like practicing more each day. And this can definitely help speed up your progress!

But do you know what?

I've also gotten great results from students who come fortnightly. There are some advantages to having fortnightly lessons such as…

  • The lessons become much more affordable. Many guitarists can't afford to come weekly, so fortnightly lessons can be a great choice.
  • You get twice as much time to learn, absorb and master the lesson material. If you are disciplined with your guitar practice, then you can really make great progress with fortnightly lessons.
  • If you have to travel a long way to come to lessons, then fortnightly lessons can make the travelling less of a chore.

Bottom Line?

If you can afford it, then I recommend starting with weekly lessons. But it's definitely not set in stone…

After a few weekly lessons we'll then have a chat and decide together whether we should continue or change to fornightly lessons. If both of us are really happy with your progress, (and you can still afford it),  then we'll continue with the weekly lesson format. If you decide you would rather change to fortnightly lessons, that's no problem at all!

Can't Afford Weekly Lessons?

No problem! If you would rather come fortnightly, then that is absolutely fine with me. :-)

Do You Do Casual Lessons?

Occasionaly people contact me and ask whether they can come less frequently than once a fortnight. Unfortunately I won't do casual lessons for three main reasons…

  • It is really hard for me to get results if people don't come on at least a fortnightly basis.
  • My teaching is aimed at guitarists who are serious about improving their electric guitar playing. Someone who is unwilling to commit to regular lessons is not serious in my opinion.
  • I have limited lesson spaces, and want to reserve those spaces for the guitarists who are truly committed to getting better
